What is Sikasil 825 Low Modulus Silicone Sealant and what are its main features?
Sikasil 825 is a low modulus, neutral cure, alkoxy, low odour silicone sealant. It adheres to many surfaces without priming. Key features include easy tooling, excellent adhesion, superior external weathering, high viscosity, and resistance to harsh chemicals after curing.
What are the recommended uses for Sikasil 825 Low Modulus Silicone Sealant?
It’s ideal for perimeter pointing around uPVC, wood, and aluminium, sealing onto uPVC and plastic trims, and sealing soft metals (lead, copper, zinc). It’s also used for weather sealing, joint sealing in panels and curtain walling, glazing, and as an expansion joint sealant.
Does Sikasil 825 require a primer, and how should surfaces be prepared?
Priming is generally not required for most surfaces, but adhesion tests are recommended. For immersed joints or poor adhesion, use Sika Primer-3 N or Sika Primer-115. For non-porous surfaces needing improved adhesion, prime with Sika Aktivator-205. All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from contaminants.
What are the drying time and movement capability of Sikasil 825 Low Modulus Silicone Sealant?
Skin time is 30-45 minutes (at 23 ยฐC / 50% RH). Curing is approximately 2 mm per day. It has a movement capability of ยฑ35% (ISO 11600) / ยฑ25% (ASTM C719). For best results, joint depth should be at least 5 mm.
What are the storage conditions and shelf life for Sikasil 825 Low Modulus Silicone Sealant?
Sikasil 825 has a 12-month shelf life from manufacture when stored unopened between +5 ยฐC and +25 ยฐC. Store upright in original containers, protected from sunlight and frost. Do not store above 25ยฐC, as this can reduce shelf life.
