Sikaflex-403 Tank & Silo FAQs
What is Sikaflex-403 Tank & Silo?
Sikaflex-403 Tank & Silo is a 1-part, moisture-curing, elastic polyurethane sealant designed for sealing joints in tanks, silos and containment structures exposed to aggressive liquids. It is resistant to organic acids, liquid manure, silage liquids and domestic and municipal sewage. It can also withstand temperatures up to +65°C, making it suitable for use in thermophilic digestors. The product is for professional use only and must be allowed to fully cure before being brought into contact with chemicals or placed under mechanical stress.
Where can Sikaflex-403 Tank & Silo be used?
It is designed for sealing joints in structures where chemical resistance is a primary requirement. Typical applications include segmented and bolted enamelled or stainless steel tanks, wall-to-floor connection joints, biogas and anaerobic digestion tanks, liquid manure tanks, drive-in silos, silage clamp retaining walls, agricultural stables, domestic and municipal sewage treatment plants and floor joints requiring very high chemical resistance. It has a movement capability of ±20%, making it suitable for joints subject to thermal or structural movement.
How do I prepare the surface before applying Sikaflex-403 Tank & Silo?
The substrate must be sound, clean, dry and free of all contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, cement laitance, old sealants and poorly bonded coatings which could affect adhesion of the sealant. The substrate must be of sufficient strength to cope with the stresses induced by the sealant during movement.
- Use techniques such as wire brushing, grinding, grit blasting or other suitable mechanical tools to remove all weak substrate material.
- Repair all damaged joint edges with suitable Sika repair products.
- Completely remove all dust, loose and friable material from all surfaces before application of any activators, primers or sealant.
- Where joints in the substrate are saw-cut, flush away all slurry material and allow joint surfaces to dry.
