Parex Dry Pack C FAQs

What is Parex Dry Pack C and what is it used for?

Parex Dry Pack C is a one-component cementitious dry packing mortar with shrinkage-compensating components. It is designed for dry packing applications where a firm, non-flowing fill is needed, including supporting precast concrete units and filling horizontal or vertical gaps without the use of shuttering. It is suitable for both internal and external use.

How should the surface be prepared before application?

The substrate should be clean, sound and free from dust, loose material, contamination and anything else that could reduce bond or stop the mortar wetting the surface properly. Any weak, damaged or delaminated concrete should be removed using suitable mechanical preparation or very high-pressure water blasting, and any embedded metal debris such as tying wire fragments or nails should be removed where possible. Before applying the mortar, the concrete should be pre-soaked with clean potable water.

How is Parex Dry Pack C mixed?

Parex Dry Pack C is mixed with 2.0 to 2.5 litres of water per 25kg bag, depending on the consistency needed for the application. It can be mixed with a low-speed hand drill mixer for small quantities, while larger volumes should be mixed in a forced action mixer. The powder should be added gradually to the measured water and mixed until the mortar is uniform and reaches a consistency suitable for ramming firmly into place.

How do you apply Parex Dry Pack C?

The mixed mortar should be packed firmly into the prepared gap in layers. Each layer should be compacted using a suitable ramming tool to make sure the void is fully filled and the mortar is properly consolidated. This process is repeated until the gap is completely filled, after which the mortar should be allowed to stiffen before the exposed face is finished with a dampened steel trowel.

What thickness can it be applied at and what does each bag yield?

Parex Dry Pack C can be used in sections from 5mm up to 100mm thick. Each 25kg bag yields around 12 litres of mixed material, which helps when estimating how much product is needed for void filling or support applications. It is also suitable for both vertical and horizontal use, which makes it more flexible for awkward repair or bedding details.

What should I know about setting, curing and storage?

At around 20°C, Parex Dry Pack C has an initial set of about 210 minutes and a final set of about 240 minutes. Once applied, the fresh mortar should be protected from premature drying for at least 3 days using an appropriate curing method such as moist geotextile, polythene sheeting or a suitable curing system. It should be applied only when air and substrate temperatures are between 5°C and 30°C, protected from rain, strong wind, direct sun and frost, and stored in its original unopened packaging in cool, dry conditions. The current product data sheet lists a shelf life of 9 months.
