SikaScreed Rapid 75 FAQs
What is SikaScreed Rapid 75 and what is it used for?
SikaScreed Rapid 75 is a 1-component, polymer-modified, rapid-setting, shrinkage-compensated levelling mortar for industrial and commercial floor applications. It is used to level, raise or form ramps on concrete floors in a single working step at thicknesses between 12mm and 75mm. It is suitable for interior and exterior use and can be used as a finished wearing surface under medium to high mechanical loads, including heavy traffic and forklift pallet trucks, or as a base layer for PU or epoxy resin coatings.
How do I mix SikaScreed Rapid 75?
Add 2.5-2.9 litres of water per 25kg bag into a suitable container, then mix using an electric paddle mixer at a maximum of 500 rpm until the mix is smooth and homogeneous. Mix for a minimum of 3 minutes. Do not use free-fall mixers. Do not exceed the recommended water dosage and do not add more water once the product has started to set. Do not mix with other cements or cement-based screeds.
What substrate preparation is needed before applying SikaScreed Rapid 75?
The substrate must be structurally sound, clean and free from cement laitance, dirt, oil, grease and loose material. The mean surface roughness should be at least 1mm – surface preparation by scarifying, milling, grinding or blast cleaning is required to achieve an open, gripping texture. Following mechanical preparation, remove all dust and loose material by brush and vacuum. Blow holes and voids must be repaired using appropriate Sika products before application. Very absorbent substrates should be primed or brought to a saturated surface dry (SSD) condition to prevent the screed losing mixing water into the substrate, which can cause shrinkage, surface pores or a weak, dusty finish. For bonded applications under high mechanical load, apply SikaScreed-20 EBB bonding bridge wet on wet and cover with SikaScreed Rapid 75 within 30 minutes at +20°C.
What temperatures are required for application, and are there any curing requirements?
Ambient air and substrate temperatures must be between +5°C and +30°C. Temperatures below +15°C will extend drying times. Do not apply in direct sunlight in warm conditions – where temperatures above +25°C are expected, begin application after the daily maximum temperature has passed. Curing with polyethylene sheeting must begin immediately after the last finishing operation. In exposed, drafty or very dry conditions, cover the freshly applied screed with sheeting before finishing. The substrate and uncured floor must remain at least 3°C above dew point throughout to avoid condensation, blooming or laitance on the finished surface.
When can SikaScreed Rapid 75 be loaded or overcoated?
The screed should not be loaded for at least 3 hours after application. Freshly applied material must be protected from damp, condensation and water for at least 24 hours. For resin overcoating with Sikafloor EP, PMMA or PU systems, refer to the relevant Sika System Data Sheet for specific waiting times and primer requirements. Do not spray water onto the surface during finishing as this reduces surface strength. Do not use heavy ride-on power floating machines during finishing.
