What is Sikafloor 440 ?
Sikafloor 440 is a fibre and polymer-reinforced, flexible, high-strength cement-based levelling compound designed specifically for use over underfloor heating systems and wooden floors. Once mixed with water it produces a smooth, self-levelling compound that dries to a tough, flexible finish. It can be used as a final wearing surface or as a base for most common floor coverings including tiles, carpet and vinyl. Application thickness is 2mm to 30mm in a single pour.
Where can Sikafloor 440 be used?
Sikafloor 440 is suitable for embedding underfloor heating systems, levelling and smoothing uneven floors, and use as a finished wearing surface. It can be applied over concrete, sand and cement screeds, brick, stone, unglazed ceramic tiles, plastic sheet DPC, epoxy membranes and wooden floors. It is suitable for internal and external use. Do not use below +4°C. Setting times will be significantly extended at lower temperatures or over low-porosity sub-floors.
How do I prepare the substrate before applying Sikafloor 440?
The floor must be clean, sound and free from grease, dust and loose particles. Substrates must be porous – dampen the surface with water before priming with SikaBond PVA+ or SikaBond SBR+ diluted 1-part PVA or SBR to 3-parts water. Apply Sikafloor 440 while the primer is still tacky. Fill deep depressions and holes with a suitable repair mortar and allow to fully dry before levelling. For existing vinyl tiles, prime with SikaBond SBR+ diluted 1:1 with water and mix the levelling compound with the same diluted SBR+ rather than plain water – allow 24 hours before applying the final covering.
How do I mix Sikafloor 440 and how much do I need?
Mix one 20kg bag with 4.2-4.4 litres of clean water. Always add the powder to the water gradually whilst stirring until a free-flowing, creamy compound is produced. Do not exceed the stated water quantity – adding excess water will weaken the finished surface. Pour the mixed compound onto the prepared floor and allow it to find its own level, then trowel lightly to achieve the required thickness. Maximum layer thickness is 30mm in a single application. Pot life is approximately 20 minutes at +20°C. Coverage is approximately 2.4m² per 20kg bag at 5mm depth.
When can floor coverings be applied over Sikafloor 440?
At +20°C, Sikafloor 440 will accept foot traffic in approximately 3 hours and can receive most floor coverings, including ceramic tiles, in approximately 4-5 hours. These times will be significantly extended at lower temperatures or over low-porosity sub-floors. Allow at least 4 weeks drying time before applying vinyl floor coverings. Always refer to the floor covering manufacturer’s requirements for substrate moisture content before laying.
