FAQs

What is Sikafloor ProSeal and what is it used for?

Sikafloor ProSeal is a 1-part, solvent-based, clear acrylic resin curing and sealing compound for concrete floors and structures. It is used to cure fresh concrete by retaining surface moisture and limiting drying and cracking, to seal and harden existing concrete floors against dusting and abrasion, and to provide curing protection for floors treated with Sikafloor dry-shake hardeners. It is suitable for both interior and exterior applications and is for use by experienced professionals only.

How is Sikafloor ProSeal applied, and how much do I need?

Sikafloor ProSeal is supplied ready to use. Stir thoroughly for a minimum of 2 minutes with a low-speed electric stirrer before application. Apply in a continuous, even film using a low-pressure spray unit – confirm suitability of spray equipment by trial before use. Application by brush or roller is also possible. For best performance, a second coat is recommended: wait for the first coat to become tack-free before applying. Coverage is approximately 0.1-0.25 litres per m² per coat (4-10 m² per litre per coat) depending on substrate porosity and surface profile. Do not use spray equipment that has previously been used for silicone or release agents.

What temperature conditions are needed for application?

Ambient air and substrate temperatures must be between +10°C and +30°C. In hot weather above +25°C, store the product in a cool place before use. In low temperatures below +10°C, performance may be affected and additional measures may be required. The substrate and uncured floor must be at least 3°C above dew point throughout application and curing to avoid condensation, blooming or surface laitance. Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with Sika Thinner C – hardened material can only be removed mechanically.

Can Sikafloor ProSeal be overcoated with a resin system?

This requires careful consideration. If a resin-based coating system such as an EP or PU floor coating is to be applied at a later stage, the surface must be prepared by shot blasting before the resin is applied – the cured ProSeal film will otherwise prevent adequate adhesion of the resin system. For subsequent coatings with organic-based paints such as acrylic resin or synthetic resin dispersion, preliminary compatibility tests are required. Always refer to the relevant Sika System Data Sheet for the resin system being specified and confirm the required preparation steps before proceeding.

What is the shelf life and how should Sikafloor ProSeal be stored?

Shelf life is 12 months from the date of production in original, undamaged, unopened sealed containers. Store in dry conditions at temperatures between +5°C and +25°C and protect from frost. Do not mix differing formulations of Sika curing compounds or other manufacturers’ curing membranes. In hot weather, keep stored product cool prior to use to maintain correct application viscosity.
