SikaTop Seal 107 Standard FAQs
What is SikaTop Seal 107 Standard?
SikaTop Seal 107 Standard is a 2-part, polymer-modified, cementitious waterproofing and damp-proofing slurry. Part A is a liquid acrylic co-polymer emulsion, and part B is a blend of Portland cements, selected aggregates and admixtures. When mixed and applied, it forms a flexible, watertight coating that bonds directly to the substrate. It is suitable for internal and external waterproofing and damp-proofing of concrete, mortar, blockwork and brickwork, interior and exterior basement waterproofing, protection of concrete structures against carbonation and de-icing salts, and sealing of hairline cracks in concrete not subject to movement. It does not produce a vapour barrier.
How do I mix SikaTop Seal 107 Standard?
Shake part A before use. Pour approximately half of part A into the mixing container, then slowly add part B while mixing. Add the remainder of part A and continue mixing until a uniform, lump-free consistency is achieved. Mixing time is approximately 3 minutes. For slurry consistency, mix at a ratio of A:B = 1:4 by weight using the full quantity of part A. For a trowel-able mortar consistency, reduce part A slightly – a ratio of A:B = 1:4.5 to 1:5.1 by weight is appropriate. Use a forced action mixer or a drill and paddle at a maximum of 500 rpm. A free-fall concrete mixer is not suitable. Do not add water under any circumstances.
What is the yield of SikaTop Seal 107 Standard, and how much do I need?
One unit yields approximately 12.5 litres of mixed mortar. As a guide, consumption is approximately 1-2 kg per m² per coat depending on substrate profile and application method. A minimum of two coats is always required – three coats may be needed in areas of very high water infiltration or hydrostatic pressure. Never apply more than 4 kg per m² per coat or exceed the maximum layer thickness stated in the current TDS.
What substrate preparation is required before applying SikaTop Seal 107 Standard?
The substrate must be sound, clean and free from dust, oil, grease, laitance, loose material and any coatings that could impair adhesion. The surface must be pre-wetted to a saturated surface dry (SSD) condition – it should be well dampened but with no standing water or active leaks present at the time of application. Active water ingress must be stopped before applying SikaTop Seal 107 Standard. Remove all weak material mechanically and repair blow holes and voids with appropriate Sika repair products before applying the waterproofing coat. An open-textured, sandpaper-like surface finish is ideal for adhesion.
How is SikaTop Seal 107 Standard applied, and what are the intercoat times?
Apply by stiff bristle brush, trowel or notched trowel. On vertical surfaces use a brush with synthetic bristles. Two coats are always required. Apply the second coat while the first is still green – the maximum waiting time between coats is 48 hours. If this window is exceeded, light grit blasting is required before proceeding. Finish horizontal surfaces with a dry sponge as the second coat begins to set. Avoid application in direct sunlight or strong wind. Protect freshly applied material from rain for at least 4 hours and from freezing conditions until fully cured.
Is SikaTop Seal 107 Standard trafficable once cured, and can it be overcoated?
No – SikaTop Seal 107 Standard does not provide a trafficable finish. For trafficked surfaces it must be protected with a Sika-1 Finishing Mortar, a SikaTop-77 bonded screed or a SikaLatex bonded screed. For roofing applications or surfaces exposed to UV, protect with a minimum 2-3cm cement screed. The product must cure for a minimum of 7 days before overcoating with primers or coatings. For waterproofing applications, take care to avoid puncturing the coating with fixings – accommodate these using Sikadur-31 or Sikaflex PRO-11 FC. When used in contact with drinking water structures, confirm that all associated products comply with relevant local regulations.
What is the shelf life and how should SikaTop Seal 107 Standard be stored?
Shelf life is a minimum of 12 months from the date of production in original, unopened containers. Store in dry, frost-free conditions. Protect part A (the liquid component) from freezing. Do not store in direct sunlight or at temperatures that could cause the liquid component to separate or degrade. Always check the current TDS and SDS before use for the most up-to-date storage and handling guidance.
