Parex Paraguard

Parex Paraguard is a water-based, clear waterproofing and weather-resistant coating that uses a lotus leaf effect to repel water and contaminants from treated surfaces. Rather than forming a surface film, it goes into the substrate and protects against water, dirt, oil, grease, atmospheric pollutants and vehicle fumes. It is non-film-forming, fully breathable and its hydrophobic properties also help resist mould, algae and mildew, helping treated surfaces stay cleaner and dryer over time.

Parex Paraguard is suitable for horizontal and vertical surfaces on new construction, retrofit and refinish projects. Compatible substrates include render, masonry, concrete, brickwork, blockwork, sandstone, reconstructed stone, granite, marble, terrazzo, engineering bricks, polished concrete and timber. It can be used over Parex External Insulation Facades and is suitable for both walls and paving surfaces. Always check the current TDS to confirm suitability for your specific substrate before application.

No to both. Parex Paraguard dries to a clear, non-staining, natural finish that does not alter the appearance of the treated surface. It also does not create a vapour barrier – the coating allows moisture inside the building to escape into the atmosphere in a controlled way, making it suitable for substrates where trapping moisture behind a film would be a concern.

It can be applied by brush, lambswool roller or airless spray gun followed by a lambswool roller. Two flood coats are standard, applied wet on wet – the second coat must go on within 30 minutes of the first before the surface dries. For coastal locations or sites with a Severe or Very Severe wind-driven rain index rating, a third coat is recommended. Start from the bottom of the elevation and work upward, ensuring full saturation throughout. Complete a single elevation in one application to avoid uneven coverage. Parex Paraguard is available in 5 litre and 25 litre containers. Coverage is approximately 3-5m² per litre depending on substrate porosity, giving around 15-25m² per coat from a 5-litre container and 75-125m² per coat from a 25-litre container. A site trial is advisable on highly porous substrates where consumption may be higher. Apply at temperatures between +5°C and +25°C. Work in shade and avoid surfaces that are warm from direct sunlight, as the product will dry too quickly for subsequent coats to be applied correctly.

Yes, Parex Paraguard is UV and weather resistant. The product is non-sacrificial, meaning once the coating is clean and intact it will not need to be re-coated. Longevity will depend on substrate type, exposure level and maintenance. Sites in coastal or highly polluted environments should apply a third coat at the time of original application and carry out periodic inspection to assess condition.
